Oklahoma may not be the first state that you think of when you hear or read the phrase “Civil War Sesquicentennial,” but there was a lot of activity in the Indian Territory during the conflict. Oklahoma’s Sesquicentennial website has several digitized collections including the letter collections of David Breese, George Fine, Cyrus Byington, and Dallas Bowman. A Fort Blunt Ledger has also been digitized, and there are over twenty maps to peruse. Check it out!

Jane,
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning this site. UO Press is publishing a new edition of the historial atlas of Oklahoma. Hopefully, it has some CW material inside. I should be getting a review copy so I'll post my thoughts on my blog.
Hi Drew,
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware that a new edition of the historical atlas was being prepared. My copy is the most recent edition (the 4th), and it was published in 2006. Admittedly, I'm a bit surprised that they are coming out with a new edition already. There is some really neat information in the atlas, and hopefully the new edition will include additional Civil War goodies. I'll be interested to read your thoughts about the atlas!
Jane,
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing your note, I went to their site and it appears the "new" book is a paperback reissue of the 4th ed. hardcover. Indeed it would have been unusual to see a truly new edition after only a few years.
Thanks for letting me know! I wonder when someone will do a Civil War atlas devoted just to the trans-Mississippi?
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't say never, but probably never. :-(
ReplyDeleteSigh...I fear that you may be correct.
